Taylor's Hat Trick Highlights Field Hockey's 8-0 Season-Opening Win Over SCSU

Wooters contributes three assists; five different players score goals

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Kristina Taylor caged a hat trick and five different players scored for the Lady Raider field hockey team on Saturday afternoon from Robb Sports Complex as Shippensburg won its season-opener 8-0 over Southern Connecticut State.

Shippensburg (1-0) held a 32-7 advantage in shots and a 12-4 advantage in penalty corners. Taylor opened the scoring at the 9:43 mark after a spin-o-rama and a streak up the right side resulted in a spectacular finish.

Freshman Sam Langone and junior Amanda Strous also added goals in the first half to give the Lady Raiders a 3-0 lead at intermission.

Taylor also scored just 30 seconds into the second half that established more momentum for Shippensburg. Senior Jamie Doughty, sophomore Katie Pufnock and senior Laura Wylde added second-half goals, while senior Mariah Wooters added assists on the second, third and fourth goals of the game.

Senior Amanda Houser made two saves in the first half for the victory. Sophomore Alyssa Stefanadis worked the final 12:19.

Shippensburg will return to action tomorrow at 10 a.m. from Robb Sports Complex against St. Michael's College.
