FAIRMONT, W.Va. - The Shippensburg University volleyball opened the 2009 season at the Fairmont State Classic on Friday night with a competitive match against the hosts but the Fighting Falcons earned a 3-0 victory. Set scores were 25-17, 25-18 and 25-21.
Shippensburg (0-1) debuted three new players in the starting lineup to complement three senior starters, but the Lady Raiders combined for just a .104 hitting percentage. Senior
Colleen Toomey led the offensive attack with 10 kills and had just two errors to go along with nine digs. Fellow senior
Kali Antolik had seven kills and two block assists.

Hannah Sorber totaled eight kills and five digs while freshmen
Carlee Hutterer and
Andrea Heimsoth combined for 26 assists and six digs in their collegiate debuts. Freshman hitter
Jenny Pry has three kills and nine digs.
Fairmont State (1-1) was paced by 14 kills from Haley Lippert and six kills from both Aushia Beavers and Micah Bell. Morgan Walls had 22 digs.
Shippensburg will return to action tomorrow with a 10 a.m. contest against Bellarmine and a rematch against Fairmont State at 4 p.m.
