LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Shippensburg University softball team staved off elimination on Saturday afternoon from Lawrence Field in the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament by defeating CIAA champion Bowie State, 2-0, to eliminate the Bulldogs and give the Lady Raiders a re-match with the Vulcans of California (Pa.) University.
Senior
Lori Knopf had a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finished with a two-hit shutout, stranding two runners in scoring position to end the game. She walked just two batters and struck out four to record her 16th complete game of the season.
Sophomore
Hope Cornell hit a solo home run to lead off the top of the fourth inning that put Shippensburg on the board, and a double from the All-PSAC First Team second basewoman resulted in another run in the sixth inning as she scored on an RBI-single from junior
Lisamarie Ramagli.
Ramagli and Cornell each had two hits, while senior
Chelsea Carson added a double and sophomores
Courtney Steele and
Jill Mullan each delivered a single.
