EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - Shippensburg sophomore pitcher
Dana Ward fired a four-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts in the final game of the 2009 regular season from Zimbar Field on Friday afternoon to split a doubleheader with East Stroudsburg in preparation for the 2009 PSAC Tournament beginning next week.
Shippensburg (23-15, 11-5 PSAC East) won the second game 3-0 and got all of its runs in the first inning, as a bases-loaded walk from
Lisamarie Ramagli got the Lady Raiders on the board and she later scored along with sophomore
Courtney Steele on an error by the Warrior shortstop.
Ward mowed down the ESU lineup and did not walk a batter for her fourth victory of the season. She retired the side in order three times and did not allow a runner past second base in the game. At the plate, Ward was 4-for-7 on the afternoon and reached base all three times in the opener.
Freshman
Emily Parkins filled in for senior
Lori Knopf in the first game and threw well from the circle, striking out five in 6.2 innings of work. Parkins also did not allow a walk, but fell victim to a walk-off home run by ESU Brittany Racek that gave East Stroudsburg a 2-1 victory.
Steele had four hits on the afternoon, while senior
Chelsea Carson went 2-for-3 in the opener and had three hits between the two games. Sophomore
Jill Mullan had three hits on the afternoon and scored two runs.
Shippensburg will travel next week to the site of the No. 1 seed from the Central Division, either Bloomsburg or Lock Haven. The two teams are currently tied atop the division with 11-1 records entering tomorrow's doubleheader. If a split occurs, the tiebreaker will ultimately be a coin toss, as both squads have each swept the remaining teams in the Central Division.
