MANSFIELD, Pa. - The Shippensburg University baseball team received a strong Game 2 start from freshman Ryan Rehman on Monday afternoon from Shaute Field to salvage a doubleheader split with home-standing Mansfield. SU dropped the opener 8-3 before rallying with a 6-2 win.

Shippensburg (20-25, 9-7 PSAC East) scored runs in the first four innings and never trailed during the second game, receiving a solid performance in the leadoff spot from junior Rick Shumway. In his new perch, Shumway went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run.

Rehman held his composure on the mound and the used the run support to his advantage, allowing just one earned run in five innings while striking out three. He overcame a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the fourth with just the one run scoring and did not allow an extra-base hit on the afternoon, improving his record to 3-1.

Offensively, freshman Cody Kulp also added a double and an RBI in Game 2 while freshman Ben Miller, sophomore Steve McCardell and freshman Tyler Uphouse each hit sacrifice flies for Shippensburg.

Mansfield (17-25, 5-11 PSAC East) scored at least one run in every inning of the opener, plating seven runs against senior starter Tim Freshour. The Raiders got RBIs from McCardell, junior Kevin Scholly and senior Sean Killian but it wasn't enough for the victory.

Shippensburg is scheduled to return to action tomorrow against Shepherd from Fairchild Field at 3 p.m., weather permitting.
