KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Shippensburg University softball team continued its timely hitting on Thursday from Florida while complementing the offense with two solid pitching performances as the Lady Raiders recorded an 8-2 victory over Urbana and a 4-2 win over Mary from the Rebel Spring Games.

Shippensburg (7-5) totaled 12 runs on Thursday and extended its streak of scoring at least four runs in a game to six consecutive contests. The Lady Raiders have scored four or more runs in seven of their eight games in Florida and have totaled 53 runs in winning five of eight contests.

In the victory over Urbana, Shippensburg received an MVP performance from senior pitcher Lori Knopf, who allowed just four hits and two runs while striking out six. At the plate, Knopf was 4-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Freshman designated player Abby Block ripped a two-run home run and scored twice, while sophomore left fielder Jill Mullan had two hits and senior center fielder Chelsea Carson had two RBIs. The Lady Raiders had 14 hits in the victory.

Against Mary, freshman Emily Parkins came within one out of a complete game, recording her first career victory by going 6.2 innings and allowing eight hits and just one earned run. She struck out two batters, but more importantly, walked just one batter. Parkins also had two hits and an RBI at the plate.

Sophomore Courtney Steele had another stellar game at the plate, finishing the contest with Mary 3-for-4 with a double and one run. Steele was 5-for-8 for the afternoon with two runs scored. Freshman Karen Strychowski entered in the seventh inning and induced a groundout to end the game and record her first career save.

The Lady Raiders will conclude their Florida road trip with a doubleheader on Friday. Shippensburg will play Kentucky Wesleyan at 3 p.m. and Lake Erie at 5 p.m.
