Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Sophomore
Hope Cornell hit a pair of game-winning home runs on Saturday afternoon from Robb Field, including a walk-off in the ninth inning of Game 2, while senior
Lori Knopf and sophomore
Dana Ward pitched complete games and the Lady Raiders swept a PSAC East doubleheader against East Stroudsburg by scores of 2-0 and 2-1.
Shippensburg (15-11, 3-1 PSAC East) had 19 hits in the doubleheader against the Warriors but only scored four runs on a wet and frigid afternoon - all of which came on long trippers. The two teams combined to strand 39 runners on base in the doubleheader and on five occasions an inning ended with the bases loaded.
In the fifth inning of the opening game, Cornell deposited a pitch from Jen Bensinger over the left-field fence for a two-home run that accounted for the only scoring of the contest. In the second game, sophomore
Courtney Steele crushed a home run in the bottom of the third inning that tied the game at 1-1 and Cornell hit the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth over the left-field fence for a walkoff win.
The key for the Lady Raiders was the pitching of Knopf and Ward, a duo that limited East Stroudsburg to just one run in 16 innings. Knopf pitched her third consecutive shutout in the opener and extended her scoreless streak to 22.1 innings by scattering four hits and striking out seven batters to improve her record to 8-4.
Ward delivered the finest pitching performance of her young career in Game 2, recovering from some first-inning jitters to retire 14 of the final 16 batters she faced while allowing just one run in a career-high nine innings and striking out a career-high eight batters. She also had three hits at the plate in the doubleheader and made a stellar defensive play in right field during the first game.
Not to be lost on the afternoon was the stellar performance of junior
Lisamarie Ramagli, who reached base in every plate appearance of the doubleheader. In the first game, Ramagli hit a double and drew two walks in three at-bats and followed that up with another double, two singles and a walk. For the afternoon she was 4-for-4 with three walks and improved her on-base percentage to .495.
Every Lady Raider had at least one hit in the second game, while senior catcher
Rachelle Wedell finished the doubleheader 3-for-5 with two walks. Sophomore
Jill Mullan also had a hit in each game along with a stolen base.
