MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Senior pitcher Lori Knopf delivered a gem in the team's PSAC Eastern Division opener on Friday afternoon by throwing a three-hit, nine-inning shutout that helped the Shippensburg University softball team record a 1-0 win at Millersville as the two teams split a doubleheader.

Shippensburg (13-11, 1-1 PSAC East) earned the victory in the opener with a run in the ninth inning. With two outs, sophomore Dana Ward delivered her third single in four at-bats and then scored when freshman Abby Block smacked a double in the next at-bat.

The run was all the support needed by Knopf, who earned her seventh victory of the season by allowing just three singles and walking just two of the 31 batters she faced. While Knopf recorded one strikeout, she induced 15 groundball outs against a team batting .291 this season.

Ward pitched the nightcap and delivered a complete game but allowed four runs over the first two innings. She allowed three earned runs and six hits in six innings of work, striking out four. Offensively, Ward was the only player with multiple hits in both games, finishing the doubleheader 5-of-7.

Sophomore Courtney Steele, who doubled in the opening game, hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh inning to prevent the shutout. Millersville's Courtney Eckman allowed just four hits to earn the victory for the Marauders in the second game.

Shippensburg is scheduled to return to action on Saturday with a home doubleheader from Robb Field against East Stroudsburg that will begin at 1 p.m.
