SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Lady Raider volleyball team honored its five-member senior class before Saturday afternoon's contest against West Chester from Heiges Field House and proceeded to sweep the visiting Golden Rams by set scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-20 to earn the No. 3 seed in next week's PSAC Tournament.
Shippensburg (14-18, 8-11 PSAC) finished in a three-way tie for second place in the PSAC Eastern Division with the Golden Rams and with Kutztown, who dropped a 3-0 decision to Millersville on Saturday.
As a result, the tiebreaker used was combined head-to-head matchup. Kutztown earned the No. 2 seed (3-1 vs. SU/WCU), while Shippensburg received the No. 3 seed (2-2 vs. WCU/KU) and West Chester took the No. 4 seed (1-3 vs. SU/KU).
On Saturday,
Kali Antolik was one of three senior hitters who totaled at least nine kills for Shippensburg. Antolik led the team with a .625 hitting percentage, ripping 11 kills on just one error, while totaling five digs and two block assists.
Colleen Toomey compiled 10 kills on four errors to move into second place on Shippensburg's career list for kills and added seven digs.
Hannah Sorber totaled nine kills and had five service aces for Shippensburg.
Freshman
Andrea Heimsoth had a great day with 40 assists, including 16 in the first set and 15 in the third set. Senior
Melanie Fries had six digs while senior
Jackie Tuccio also added one dig defensively.
Shippensburg will participate in the PSAC Quarterfinals at 7 p.m. on Tuesday from Keystone Hall from Kutztown.
