Box Score
SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Lady Raider volleyball team struggled offensively on Friday night from Heiges Field House and dropped a 3-0 decision to visiting Kutztown but clinched a spot in the PSAC Tournament heading into tomorrow's final regular season contest. Set scores were 25-23, 25-20 and 25-20.
Shippensburg (13-18, 7-11 PSAC) drops to fourth in the PSAC Eastern Division but clinched a postseason berth after West Chester came from behind to defeat Millersville in five sets. The Marauders are two games behind SU in the standings while each team has just one match remaining in the regular season.
The Lady Raiders host the Golden Rams tomorrow, and Shippensburg could clinch the No. 3 seed in the East with a victory by virtue of sweeping the season series against West Chester. SU earned a five-set victory at Hollinger Field House in the previous meeting between the two squads. A West Chester victory on Saturday would cement the Lady Raiders with the No. 4 seed and a first-round match at Lock Haven.
If Kutztown falls to Millersville on Saturday and Shippensburg defeats West Chester, a three-way tie would result with all the schools having 8-11 divisional records. The tiebreaker in this case is combined head-to-head matchup, and this would result in Kutztown getting the No. 2 seed (3-1 vs. SU/WCU), Shippensburg receiving the No. 3 seed (2-2 vs. WCU/KU) and West Chester earning the No. 4 seed (1-3 vs. SU/KU).
On Friday night, Shippensburg got 13 kills from senior outside hitter
Hannah Sorber and 11 kills from senior outside hitter
Colleen Toomey but overall committed 27 attack errors while allowing 11 total blocks by the Golden Bears. SU hit just .082 for the evening.
Toomey finished with a double-double by totaling 11 kills and 11 digs, while freshman libero
Lauren Murphy continued her strong defense with 10 digs. Freshman setter
Andrea Heimsoth totaled 33 assists and 11 digs. If Toomey records five successful attacks on Saturday, she will move into second place on Shippensburg's career list for kills.
The Lady Raiders once again thrived at the block with a total of nine in the match. Sorber finished with six block assists and moved in to second on the school's all-time list with 183 for her career. Senior
Kali Antolik, the school record holder for block assists, added two more to her total while Heimsoth and Toomey also added a pair.
Shippensburg will honors its five seniors tomorrow afternoon in the team's final regular season home game. The first serve against the Golden Rams is set for 1 p.m. from Heiges Field House.
