SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's soccer team dropped its first home game of the season on Tuesday afternoon from David See Field in a 3-0 PSAC Eastern Division loss to No. 9 West Chester.
Shippensburg (5-5-2, 2-3-2 PSAC East) played within one goal of the Golden Rams for the majority of the contest but could not come up with an equalizer against an opponent that has allowed just two goals through 12 games this season. Graduate goalkeeper
Beth Long helped captain the Lady Raider defense, making seven saves.
The two teams played particularly close in the first half which concluded with the score tied 0-0. Shots were in favor of the Golden Rams by just one, eight to seven.
West Chester (10-1-1, 8-1 PSAC East) opened the scoring in the 55th minute when talented junior Sarah Oswald recorded her fifth goal of the season off an assist from Jessica Bennett. All five of Oswald's goals this season have been game-winners.
Shippensburg will return to action on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. with a PSAC crossover contest at Slippery Rock.
