Lady Raider Volleyball Records Two Victories On Friday Night Over PSAC East Foe Cheyney

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University volleyball team earned two conference victories over Cheyney on Friday night from Heiges Field House that moved the Lady Raiders into sole possession of second place in the PSAC Eastern Division. Set scores of the opening match were 25-4, 25-10 and 25-9 while the second match ended 25-8, 25-8 and 25-12.

Shippensburg (11-16, 6-9 PSAC) used no upperclassmen in the first match and the entire starting lineup featured freshmen. Setter Andrea Heimsoth led the team with seven kills while outside hitter Rachel Smicker ripped six kills and had three solo blocks.

Jenny Pry added six kills while defensive specialist Karla Peterson led the team with seven digs while adding five service aces and four kills. Both Erin Flick and setter Carlee Hutterer led the team with six service aces each while the team totaled 34 kills and 22 aces in the opening match.

Peterson led the team with five kills in the second match while the upperclassmen participated in the opening set. Senior Kali Antolik had four kills, four digs and two solo blocks in her set while fellow senior Hannah Sorber had three kills and five digs.

Cheyney (0-18, 0-14 PSAC) received two kills, four assists and eight digs from Manoucheca Julce in the second match. The Wolves held early leads in the final two sets before the Lady Raiders took control.

SU returns to action on Saturday with a tri-match at Shepherd. The Lady Raiders will face the Rams before taking on Ohio Valley.
