SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg University men's swimming team produced an impressive effort on Sunday afternoon from the Donald N. Miller Pool by winning four individual events and one relay victory while posting a 108-97 victory over Division I opponent Drexel.
Shippensburg (1-1) and its impressive performance also marked the first head coaching victory for Erin Goodhart '04, whose Raider squad improved numerous times from the season-opening meet two weeks ago.
Among the relay squads, the 200-yard medley squad of sophomore
Joe Keefe, junior transfer
Derek Yeager, freshman
Eric Naylor, senior
Nate Ryan recorded a solid time of 1:40.77 to win the top medal in the event.
Individually, Naylor also won the 200-yard freestyle with time of 1:49.43 to finish the day with two medals. Fellow freshman
Eddie LaNoue won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.78 seconds, while Ryan finished just .07 seconds behind him.
Perhaps the most impressive individual performance was by senior
Shane Wolter, who dominated the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:55.17 to win the event by 13 seconds. Wolter also aced the 500-yard freestyle to win the event with a time of 4:52.23. Additionally, junior
Tim Smullen won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.39 seconds.
Shippensburg will have another home meet at 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 29 when the Raiders host Canisius from the Donald N. Miller pool.
