Kuntzmann's Goal Does Not Hold As Women's Soccer Drops Road Decision To SRU, 2-1

Long makes seven saves; SU fires 11 shots and tries three corners

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Shippensburg women's soccer team took a first-half lead Saturday afternoon on the road at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium but could not preserve its advantage, dropping a 2-1 decision in a PSAC crossover contest to Slippery Rock.

Shippensburg (5-6-2) opened the scoring in the 17th minute when junior Amanda Greenawalt sent a long pass down the side of the field that eventually found senior Gayle Kuntzmann. The senior forward sent the chance far post for her eighth goal of the season to give SU a 1-0 lead.

Slippery Rock (6-3-3) answered less than 10 minutes later when Alison Hindley scored her seventh goal of the season by routing a free kick into the bottom left corner of the net. In the 79th minute, The Rock took the lead when Ashley Paganie looped in a free kick fro 40 yards out that ricocheted off the crossbar and graduate goalkeeper Beth Long before ricocheting into the net.

Overall, the Lady Raiders remained close to The Rock, totaling 11 shots and attempting three corner kicks. Defensively, Long made six saves for Shippensburg in the contest and has totaled 457 for her career. She needs 36 more saves to tie the school record held by Meredith Yakscoe-Markle '06.

Shippensburg returns to action at 4 p.m. on Thursday with a road match at Philadelphia.
