Lady Raiders Earn Split After First Day of Competition at Dutch Country Spiketacular

Shippensburg sweeps Wilmington before dropping five-setter

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -
The Shippensburg volleyball team earned a split after the first day of competition at the Dutch Country Spiketacular hosted by Millersville University. The Lady Raiders swept Wilmington in Match 2 before dropping a heartbreaking five-setter to Dowling in Match 4.

Shippensburg (2-5) easily dispatched of the Wildcats from Wilmington by scores of 25-13, 25-12 and 27-25. Junior Colleen Toomey had 10 kills and three service aces, while freshman Katie Leitner led the Lady Raiders with 11 kills and just two errors. Junior Hannah Sorber added seven kills on just two errors, while senior setter Maureen DuVall delivered five kills, eight digs and 27 assists.

In their second game of the day, the Lady Raiders trailed two sets to none before clawing all the way back to force a fifth and deciding set. Shippensburg came up just short, dropping the final set by a 16-14 margin. Game scores were 25-18, 25-19, 23-25, 23-25 and 16-14 in favor of the Golden Lions.

Junior Kali Antolik had her best game of the young season, ripping a team-high 12 kills with just one error while also recording a block solo and a block assist. Freshman Libby Woffindin contributed 10 kills with just two errors along with a block solo and two block assists.

Freshman Caitlin Marshall contributed seven kills and 10 digs for the Lady Raiders, while senior libero Kelsi Hoffman continued her strong play with a team-high 11 digs and two service aces. Toomey added six kills and nine digs as well.

The Lady Raiders return to action tomorrow with a 10 a.m. contest against Fairmont State and a 2 p.m. match with Adelphi.
