CALIFORNIA, Pa. - Shippensburg women's volleyball senior
Kelsi Hoffman broke the school record for career digs on Saturday afternoon at the California (Pa.) Tournament as the Lady Raiders split a pair of matches. Indianapolis defeated Shippensburg in three sets before the Lady Raiders rallied to defeat Mercyhurst in five sets.
Hoffman broke the mark with 18 digs against the Greyhounds and later totaled 20 digs against the Lakers. For her career, she has totaled 1,877 digs - 30 more than the original record held by former Lady Raider standout Missy Pierce '07.
Shippensburg (11-9) lost to Indianapolis by scores of 25-17, 25-18 and 26-24. The Lady Raiders defeated Mercyhurst in five by scores of 25-19, 19-25, 22-25, 25-21 and 15-13.
In the nightcap against the Lakers, Hoffman and fellow senior
Karey Toms combined for 41 digs. Senior setter
Maureen DuVall totaled 43 assists and nine digs along with five kills and one block assist. Freshman
Caitlin Marshall had 14 digs along with eight kills.
Offensively, three players posted at least 10 kills. Junior
Colleen Toomey once again led the way with 12 kills and 12 digs for another double-double, while junior
Hannah Sorber added 10 kills and two block assists. Junior
Kali Antolik had 10 kills and three block assists.
Against Indianapolis, Sorber ripped seven kills without an error while also contributing two block solos and one block assist. Toomey and Antolik combined for 19 kills, while freshman
Katie Leitner delivered six kills. DuVall and Marshall combined for 12 digs.
Shippensburg will return to PSAC Eastern Division play at 7 p.m. Tuesday from Heiges Field House against West Chester.
