SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg field hockey team raced out to a goal just 81 seconds into its PSAC Western Division contest with Mansfield on Saturday afternoon at Robb Sports Complex and never let up the momentum, as the Lady Raiders cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Mountaineers in the team's home opener.

Shippensburg (4-1, 1-1 PSAC West) opened the scoring with the first goal of the season from junior Jamie Doughty, who tapped in a pass from senior Natalie Faith to give the Lady Raiders a lead. Senior Kim Davies added her sixth and seventh goals of the season, the latter coming on a wicked deflection from a shot by senior Dani Haas, to give Shippensburg a 3-0 lead at the half.

Mansfield (4-2, 2-1 PSAC West) only recorded one shot in the first half, and it was stopped with a stellar defensive save by junior Chelsea Zook. Junior Amanda Houser was not forced to make a stop until midway through the second half, but recorded four saves to earn her third career shutout.

The Lady Raiders continued the offensive pressure quickly in the second half. Freshman Kristina Taylor scored her third goal of the season just four minutes into the half, while Doughty scored her second goal of the game to extend the lead to five with 22:03 to play.

Shippensburg would score more two more times in a 90-second span before the game's close. Senior Carolyn Swift scored her first goal of the season off an assist from sophomore Amanda Strous with 10 minutes to play and sophomore Laura Wylde capped off the offensive blitz with her second of the year to bring the final margin to 7-0.

For the game, Shippensburg was in total control, out-shooting Mansfield by a 25-5 margin and recording nine penalty corners. Mansfield goalkeeper Brianna DeLuca made nine saves in nearly 50 minutes of action for the Mountaineers.

Shippensburg will return to action on Tuesday night at David See Field with a 6 p.m. match against Philadelphia.
