ERIE, Pa. – The Shippensburg men's basketball team faced the No. 4 team in the nation on Tuesday night in the finals of the 35th annual Porreco Cup from the Hammermill Center but the Raiders could not stave off the homestanding Golden Knights, dropping a 76-45 decision to Gannon.
Shippensburg (7-2) fell victim to a fast-paced, pressure attack by Gannon, who forced 25 turnovers and translated that into 28 points. Junior guard
Stephon Draper was the only Red Raider in double figures, scoring 10 points. He was named to the all-tournament team after totaling 33 points in two games.
Gannon (8-0) entered the contest with the best rebounding margin in Division II and maintained that dominance in the post once again by out-rebounding Shippensburg 43-29. Preseason All-American Kyle Goldcamp finished with a game-high 20 points and 14 rebounds and was named the tournament MVP.
The Knights gained the momentum from the outset with the first six points and led by 12 points by the first media timeout. Shippensburg clawed back with a 9-3 run over the first five minutes of the second half but could not trim its deficit below 18 points.

Shippensburg will compete in the first of two conference-sanctioned crossovers this weekend from Heiges Field House. The Red Raiders will host Mercyhurst on Saturday at 3 p.m. before taking on Slippery Rock this Sunday at 3 p.m.
