Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Shippensburg University volleyball team has advanced to the semifinals of the 2008 PSAC Volleyball Championships with a 3-1 victory over the No. 2-seeded Golden Rams of West Chester. Set scores were 25-22, 13-25, 25-19 and 25-21.

Shippensburg (22-15) earned its second victory over the Golden Rams in four days in large part to its solid hitting percentage and sturdy blocking. The Lady Raiders compiled a .204 hitting percentage and 11 total blocks while hitting over .300 in the final two sets.

Thirteen proved to be a lucky number on Tuesday night for Shippensburg, as three Lady Raiders reached that amount in kills. Junior Kali Antolik ripped her 13 kills with just two errors and hit .500 while totaling six block assists to lead the Lady Raider attack.

Fellow junior Colleen Toomey, who earlier in the day was named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week for her efforts against the Golden Rams on Saturday, totaled her 13 kills along with six digs and one service ace.

Freshman Caitlin Marshall recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 14 digs along with two service aces and one solo block.

Defensively, senior Kelsi Hoffman posted another stellar effort with 30 digs to complement three assists and one service ace. Senior setter Maureen DuVall totaled 41 assists and 10 digs to go along with five block assists.

In other action on Tuesday evening, East No. 1 seed Lock Haven swept No. 4 East Stroudsburg while West No. 1 seed California (Pa.) defeated Slippery Rock 3-1.

Shippensburg will now travel to No. 16 California (Pa.) for the semifinals to take on the host Vulcans on Friday at 7:30 p.m. from Hamer Hall. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.
