KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Shippensburg men's soccer team produced its largest shot total of the season on Tuesday night in a PSAC Eastern Division clash at Kutztown and recorded its second multi-goal game of the season but finished with a 2-2 tie against the Golden Bears.
Shippensburg (1-8-3, 0-4-2 PSAC East) opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a goal from senior
Austin Alfonsi, who converted a pass from sophomore
Miles Peek. It was the first goal of the season for Alfonsi and the first collegiate point for Peek.
Kutztown (2-10-1, 1-4-1 PSAC East) responded with two goals in a six-minute span that gave the Golden Bears a 2-1 lead in he 29th minute. James Robinson scored his third and fourth goals of the season for Kutztown.
The Red Raiders remained vigilant and tied the score in the 60th minute with sophomore
Dave Rostad netting his team-leading third goal of the season to bring the score to 2-2. Alfonsi assisted on the tally, giving him the first multi-point game for a Red Raider this season.
Shippensburg dominated the overtime periods, out-shooting Kutztown 7-0 and recording two corner kicks. The Red Raiders fired five shots over the final 10 minutes but were not able to connect for a tally.
Kutztown goalkeeper Matthew Fredericks made seven saves for the Golden Bears, while Shippensburg red-shirt senior keeper
Brad Patke made one save for the Red Raiders.
Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday in a road re-match with the No. 12-ranked Warriors of East Stroudsburg that begins at 5 p.m. The previous meeting between the two teams featured two Warrior red cards due to violent conduct fouls against Red Raider players.
