Lady Raider Volleyball Upends Clarion But Drops Tough Five-Setter to Host Edinboro

Shippensburg rallied against Edinbro but dropped fifth set 15-11

EDINBORO, Pa. - The Shippensburg volleyball dispatched of the Clarion Golden Eagles in four sets at the PSAC Crossover tournament on Friday inside McComb Fieldhouse before dropping a difficult five-setter to homestanding Edinboro by game scores of 25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 20-25 and 15-11. Junior Colleen Toomey finished with 22 kills in two games.

Shippensburg (12-11) opened the day by defeating the Golden Eagles with game scores of 25-14, 25-21, 24-26 and 25-21. Offensively, Toomey posted a double-double with 11 kills, 10 digs and one block solo while junior Hannah Sorber recorded eight kills on just one error with three block assists.

Also against Clarion, junior Kali Antolik stepped up with 11 kills, three block solos and three block assists while freshman Caitlin Marshall had six kills and 10 digs. Senior setter Maureen DuVall totaled five kills, two block assists, seven digs and 34 assists, while seniors Karey Toms and Kelsi Hoffman combined for six service aces and 46 digs.

The intense nightcap against Edinboro was in Shippensburg's hands but the team just could not finish against a strong Fighting Scot squad. Toomey delivered 11 kills and eight digs, freshman Katie Leitner ripped seven kills to go along with three block assists and three digs while Marshall totaled five kills and seven digs.

Antolik and Sorber combined for 12 kills and seven block assists against the Fighting Scots. DuVall had 23 assists, seven digs and two aces while Hoffman and Toms combined for 23 digs.

Shippensburg will look to close out the crossover on Saturday with a victory over Gannon. The Lady Raiders take on the Knights at 12:30 p.m.
