SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - The Shippensburg men's soccer team battled frigid and windy conditions on Tuesday night at David See Field but a penalty kick from Jeffers Frazier proved to be the difference as visiting Shepherd earned a 1-0 victory over the Red Raiders.
Shippensburg (1-11-3) held the territorial edge for a majority of the contest as the Rams played two-thirds of the game with 10 players. The Red Raiders had a great chance in the second half, but sophomore
Dave Rostad was denied on back-to-back scoring chances by converted Shepherd goalkeeper Wagner Dacosta. The Rams brought an 11th player into the game late in the second half.
The difference came in the 42nd minute, when junior
Keith Kassel was whistled for a foul in the box. Frazier sent a dipping shot past red-shirt senior
Brad Patke on a penalty kick that gave the Rams their fifth victory of the season. Patke finished with two saves, while sophomore
Scott Smith made a spectacular team save in the second half.
Shippensburg returns to action on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. home contest with Millersville from David See Field.
