WHEELING, W. Va. - The Shippensburg University volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday at the 2008 Wheeling Jesuit Tournament. The Lady Raiders defeated Seton Hill in straight sets before dropping a five-set match to the University of Charleston.
Shippensburg (17-14) received a strong performance from junior middle blocker
Kali Antolik, who had 11 kills on just two errors in the victory over Seton Hill. She also added three block assists. Junior
Colleen Toomey added eight kills on four errors and senior
Karey Toms recorded 16 digs. The scores of the morning match were 25-9, 25-8 and 25-23.
In the second contest of the afternoon the Lady Raiders fell to the University of Charleston by set scores of
25-18, 25-23, 24-26, 18-25 and 15-13. Antolik again had a strong game ripping 17 kills while adding three solo blocks and two block assists. Junior Hannah Sorber contributed 15 kills on five errors with five block assists.
Senior setter Maureen DuVall delivered 48 assists and 20 digs, while senior libero Kelsi Hoffman delivered 39 digs in the five-set match. Toomey ripped 14 kills and contributed 23 digs.
The Lady Raiders return to action Tuesday evening, with a 7 p.m. match against Cheyney from Heiges Field House.
