Sage is entering her third year at Shippensburg University as the Student-Athlete Wellness Support Dog, where she provides comfort and emotional support to student-athletes throughout their collegiate experience.
A 4½-year-old Saint Bernard, Sage is a certified therapy dog through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs and serves the local community with the Kindly Canines Therapy Dog Group. She is partnered with her handler, Dr. Miranda Fisher, DAT, LAT, ATC, Assistant Director of Sports Medicine at Shippensburg University.
Known as a gentle giant with a heart as big as her paws, Sage has a calm, affectionate personality and a remarkable ability to brighten someone's day. She regularly visits the athletic training room to support student-athletes during injury rehabilitation and participates in team visits before and after practices to promote wellness, reduce stress, and foster connection.
Outside the athletic training room, Sage can often be found cheering on the Raiders at outdoor athletic events—usually while sporting her signature pearls. When she's off duty, Sage enjoys belly rubs, long walks on the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail, and, of course, plenty of treats.
As an important member of the Sports Medicine team, Sage helps create a welcoming, supportive environment and reminds student-athletes that caring for their mental and emotional well-being is just as important as caring for their physical health.
