Ollie Cooperwood is in his sixth season as the assistant wrestling coach at Shippensburg University. He is a former Division I wrestler who earned two varsity letters at Lock Haven.
 
Cooperwood has been Shippensburg’s lead assistant during the entirety of head coach Seth Bloomquist’s tenure. He is an integral figure in the wrestling room and a valuable day-to-day counsel to the team as both an instructor and motivator.
 
Cooperwood’s coaching career began in October 2002 as an assistant wrestling coach at West Carteret High School in North Carolina. During his tenure, the squad placed second, third and fifth in the state while producing four state champions and 15 state place-winners.

He also served as the head wrestling coach at Morehead Middle School from November 2004 through March 2005. Cooperwood has also instructed with the Ken Chertow Wrestling Camp and the Mat Town USA Wrestling Club for five years and continues to assist both organizations.
 
Cooperwood is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and completed his service in May of 2009. He received a Marine Corps achievement medal for meritorius service above and beyond the call of duty.

While in the Marine Corps, Cooperwood continued to wrestle Greco Roman for the All-Marine wrestling team, winning an AAU National Title. Following his military service, Cooperwood attended Lock Haven and was with the Bald Eagles from 2005-09.
 
Cooperwood began his scholastic wrestling career at Maple Heights High School in Ohio where he was a conference and sectional champion as well as a state place-winner. In June of 2001, Cooperwood enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and specialized in Force Reconnaissance.

In 2005, Cooperwood was published five times for the "Wrestlers Corner" feature of Wrestling USA magazine, one of the nation’s leading monthly publications for high school and college wrestling. His articles focused upon the importance of athletics in the life of a student as well while providing a student-athlete’s perspective upon the life of a wrestler both on and off the mat.

Cooperwood earned a bachelor’s degree in 2009 from Lock Haven University and his master’s degree in 2011 from Shippensburg University. He is the founder of Current University Networks, a company designed to provide strategies and software to colleges and universities with the goal of enhancing the connections between college graduates and potential employers.
