Pearllan Cipriano is in her second year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Shippensburg University women’s tennis team in the 2022-23 season.
In the spring of 2022, Cipriano functioned as the primary coach for the SU women’s tennis team. After serving as a volunteer assistant in the 2021 fall “non-championship” season, Cipriano was the only coach on staff during the team’s “championship” portion of the schedule.
Already a valuable instructor to the team at practice, Cipriano led all team practices in the spring and took on numerous additional roles, completing film breakdown and conducting individual workouts for the players to accommodate their class schedules.
Among her notable coaching achievements included the instruction of senior Jenna Sluymer, who was named to the 2021-22 All-PSAC Second Team singles squad and became the first Raider to be named to the all-conference team in tennis in a decade.
As a collegian, Cipriano was a scholarship tennis athlete at Emmanuel College from 2015-19. Cipriano was an All-Conference Carolinas Second Team performer and an International Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic honoree as a senior in 2018-19. She was an integral member of an Emmanuel team that won the 2019 Conference Carolinas Championship, culminating a five-year run for the Lions that began with a winless record in 2014-15.
A native of Taunton, England, Cipriano earned three undergraduate degrees from Emmanuel College: a bachelor of science in pre-law in 2019 and bachelors of science in criminal justice and history in 2021. She graduated magna cum laude and was a member of the Presidential List while serving as the president of the Pi Gamma Mu Honors Society.
Cipriano is studying toward a master’s degree in communication studies at Shippensburg. She is a graduate assistant in the sports information office who has also worked at Shippensburg in the department of recreation under Melissa Hazzard and in the department of athletics under Tammy Swope.
