Emily Maerz was hired at Shippensburg University on August 22, 2016 and enters her first season as the head women's tennis coach in 2016-17.

Maerz, a member of the Professional Tennis Registry, arrives at Shippensburg after spending two seasons as the head women's tennis coach at Hood College, a Division III program in Frederick, Md.
 
At Hood, both of Maerz's squads reached the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Commonwealth Semifinals. The 2015-16 unit posted the most team wins by a Hood squad in five years. Two players from the 2015-16 team earned All-Conference accolades, while both of her squads earned ITA All-Academic Team awards. Five of her players were tabbed as ITA Scholar-Athletes.
 
As a player, Maerz finished third all-time at Hood with 45 singles wins, 43 doubles victories and 88 total wins from 2009-13. Her 36 career victories at No. 1 singles remain Hood's school record. As a senior, she was named to the All-Commonwealth Conference First Team and was All-Capital Athletic Conference during her freshman and junior years. She was a two-sport athlete, having also spent four years on the Hood women's basketball team, finishing fourth all-time at the school in three-pointers.
 
Maerz was the 2013 recipient of the President's Award at Hood's senior student-athlete banquet, given to student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their Hood College careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership. She was also a three-year team captain.
 
For the last two years, Maerz has served as the Tennis Coordinator for the City of Frederick, Md. She has worked with the West Winds Tennis and Fitness Center in addition to doing summer camps and tennis lessons at Villages of Urbana. Previously, she coached the USTA Juniors based in Frederick.
 
She remains an active USTA tournament player with a 4.5 NTRP rating. Maerz is the 2016 Frederick City Women's Doubles Champion who also won the 2013 Frederick City Mixed Doubles Championship.
 
Maerz graduated from Hood with a degree in political science in 2013. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Sports Administration in Exercise Science and Physical Education from McDaniel College.
