Jen Flinchbaugh is in her sixth season as an assistant coach for the Shippensburg University swimming teams in 2021-22. She returned to her alma mater as a volunteer assistant for the 2016-17 season and became an assistant coach beginning with the 2017-18 season.
Flinchbaugh is a valuable instructor who actively assists head coach Tim Verge each week at practice sessions and is extremely well-versed with the ins and outs of the program, having swam for the Raiders from 2011-15. Verge has cited Flinchbaugh as one of the top team leaders he has ever instructed during his 21-year SU tenure.
As a collegian, Flinchbaugh set her individual career bests as a senior, including a PR in the 200-yard backstroke of 2:10.76 at the 2015 PSAC Championships that ranked eighth in school history. She finished as a three-time PSAC place-winner in relay competition, including a second-place finish as a freshman in 2012 with the team’s 200-yard freestyle relay.
Outside of the pool, Flinchbaugh was extremely active with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), serving as the East Chair and PSAC representative. She was also a fund-raising chair for Kappa Delta Pi, Epsilon Epsilon Chapter, and a member of the Tau Kappa Women’s Athletics Honors Sorority.
During her time as an undergraduate, Flinchbaugh also assisted the athletic department as a football game manager and with gameday operations. Flinchbaugh also spent time as a volunteer coach for seventh and eighth-grade volleyball in the Greencastle-Antrim School District.
In the community, Flinchbaugh has been an assistant head coach for the local Special Olympics swim team and remains active with the organization. She annually serves as an integral figure in SU’s production of the Special Olympics “Fun Swim” Meet. Flinchbaugh is also a member of the Greyhound Foundation’s Board of Trustees, an organization designed to enhance the educational programs in the Shippensburg Area School District.
A native of York, Flinchbaugh graduated from Shippensburg in 2015 with a degree in mid-level education (math and science concentration), a coaching minor, and a 3.86 cumulative GPA. She works full time as a math teacher at the Shippensburg Area Middle School and is the proud mother of her three-year-old son, Clynton.
