Rachel Hess returns to her alma mater as an assistant coach with Shippensburg University Women’s Soccer for the fall of 2017.

Hess aids head coach Rob Fulton with the team’s game-day preparations and provides assistance with practice duties as well as recruiting and scouting.

A Level E and Level F certified coach, Hess returned to Shippensburg after working locally as a soccer instructor for the last three years. She most recently has worked as a coach with Soccer Shots and with the Penn Legacy Soccer Club. Previously, Hess assisted the Penn Manor School District and the Penn Manor Soccer Club as a soccer coach and practice instructor.

At Shippensburg, Hess thrived as a midfielder from 2010-13. Hess played in 71 games, making 38 starts, while totaling six goals and six assists. Following her junior season, Hess was named to the 2012 NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region Third Team after starting all 18 games for the Raiders.

As a senior, Hess played a vital role on a Shippensburg squad that finished with a 12-6-3 record and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. Hess was one of five seniors who helped SU advance in the PSAC Tournament for the first time in school history and later win its first NCAA Tournament game in history. The 2013 team remains the only squad in school history to go an entire season without suffering back-to-back losses.

While at Shippensburg, Hess was a member of the Environmental Club and the Exercise Science Club while also playing an active role with Tau Kappa, SU’s women’s athletics honors sorority. In 2013, Hess participated in the NCAA Career In Sports Forum in Indianapolis.

Hess, a native of Lancaster, graduated from Shippensburg in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a minor in coaching.
