Lucas Costa is in his second season as the graduate assistant on the Shippensburg University women’s soccer coaching staff in 2022.

Costa arrived at Shippensburg after serving as an assistant with Tupelo Futbol Club, where he coached u15 girls and u14 boys while working for head coach Jorge Alvarez. He was an integral practice instructor who conducted training with defenders and goalkeepers.

Also with Tupelo Futbol Club, Costa devised position-specific practice plans for attacking players and was active with video breakdown. He was also responsible for individual training sessions with select players.

As a collegian, Costa played two seasons at Shorter University – appearing in 25 matches as a defender and making 19 starts for the Hawks. In his final semester at Shorter, Costa served as a volunteer coach and completed an internship with the sports information office. Costa also spent one season as a starter at Middle Georgia State and one season at Western Texas College.

Other coaching experience includes volunteer efforts with Arsenal Rome Academy. Costa is currently studying toward his USSF ‘D’ coaching license and his USC Goalkeeping Level 1 license.

A native of Sobradinho, Brazil, Costa played for some of the top youth teams in the capital city of Brasilia.

Costa received a bachelor’s degree from Shorter in May 2020 and an associate’s degree from Western Texas College in May 2018. He is studying toward his MBA at Shippensburg.
