Ron Slozat is in his 15th year as an assistant coach for the SU cross country teams. Slozat works primarily with the women’s team but has been instrumental in the development of many Raider runners. He is a fantastic motivator and is eternally optimistic.
Slozat discovered running at the age of 40 and quickly became a top masters level runner in northwestern Pennsylvania. He is often visible throughout Shippensburg either running or cycling around town. Slozat thoroughly enjoys running with the women’s team and considers himself somewhat of a grandfatherly figure.
In August 2008, Slozat completed the Ausherman Memorial Five-Mile Run in the 60-64 age bracket and finished in 34:10, which was good enough for second place. It was his third go-around at the event.
Slozat now calls himself semi-retired as he spends his days dabbling in the stock and commodities markets before coming into campus for practice. He has had an interesting life and held a variety of careers. Ron served in the military, was an engineer for PennDOT, owned several health clubs, worked as a real estate agent and at one point owned almost 100 rental properties.
Ron lives in Shippensburg with his wife Patti, a teacher in the Chambersburg Area School District.
