Distance veteran Dan Helfrick joined the track coaching staff in January 2010 and will be in his first year as an assistant with the cross country squad. He is a former Shippensburg University student-athlete who contributed to six PSAC team championships in indoor and outdoor track.
At the 2005 PSAC outdoor championships, Helfrick won the 5,000 and 10,000 meters against one of the strongest and deepest distance fields in PSAC history. He also won the 5,000 meters at the 2006 PSAC indoor championship meet. He boasts personal best times of 14:41(5K) and 30:37 (10K).
Since his graduation from Shippensburg, he has served four years as an assistant coach at Carlisle High School, helping to build one of the most respected distance programs in central Pennsylvania. His knowledge, recent college experience and passion for the sport will prove valuable to the continued success of the track & field programs, specifically with the distance events.
Helfrick married Mandy Spickler ‘10 this summer.
