2013 (Junior): In her third season, Schlusser maintained her status as a scoring runner and postseason performer for the Raiders. She emerged as the team’s No. 1 runner at the NCAA Championships, nearly cracking the Top 100, while serving as the team’s No. 4 runner at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships. At the PSAC Championships, Schlusser was the team’s No. 6 runner. During the regular season, Schlusser posted a Top 10 finish at Gettysburg as SU’s No. 1 runner and was the No. 2 runner among the team’s open runners at the Paul Short Invitational. In track, Schlusser contributed to a pair of scoring relays, including a fourth-place turn outdoors on the 4x8 squad and a sixth-place turn indoors on the DMR. She was a PSAC outdoor qualifier at 1,500 meters and a PSAC indoor and outdoor qualifier at 800 meters.
2012 (Sophomore): Schlusser remained a postseason starter for the Raiders in her second season, serving as the team’s No. 7 runner at both the NCAA Atlantic Region and National Championship races. She was a Top-30 finisher at the PSAC Championships, where she served as SU’s No. 6 runner. In the season-opening Piper Open/Alumni Challenge, Schlusser improved her 4K PR with a time of 16:11. During the track season, Schlusser was a PSAC place-winner on both the indoor and outdoor 4x800-meter relay squads. She was an individual PSAC qualifier indoors both at 800 meters and in the mile as well as outdoors at 800 meters and 1,500 meters.
2011 (Freshman): In her first season as a Raider, Schlusser impressed as a key scoring runner in her debut season. Her 25th-place finish at the conference championships led to being named the 2011 PSAC Women’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year at season’s end. Schlusser was the team’s No. 6 runner at the PSAC championships before stepping up and serving as the No. 5 runner at both the NCAA Atlantic Region and NCAA National Championship races during the postseason. Her time of 23:17 at the regional meet resulted in a 19th-place finish. One week before the conference championships, Schlusser finished 25th at the Gettysburg Invitational as the team’s No. 3 runner.
Carlisle High School: Schlusser earned four varsity letters while competing for the Thundering Herd under former SU assistant track coach Ed Boardman. She also earned three letters for track and one for basketball. Schlusser competed on the varsity cross country team for four years while serving as a captain both her junior and senior seasons. She twice qualified for states as an individual, and once as part of a team. Schlusser earned three Mid-Penn Conference medals and two District 3 medals. She also played soccer, was a member of the National Honor Society and earned 4 academic letters and a District 3 academic letter.
Personal: April Nicole Schlusser is the daughter of Warren and Cheryl Schlusser. She is majoring in marketing and seeking a minor in psychology. April has an older brother, Shawn, who graduated from Shippensburg in May 2011.
