Emma Fickel joins the SU women’s basketball coaching staff in 2015-16 and will develop an active role with game preparation and instruction.
Fickel is familiar with the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), having played four seasons in the league at Clarion under head coach Gie Parsons. With the Lady Eagles, Fickel finished ninth in school history with 1,080 career points. She also finished fourth in school history with 233 career three-pointers and also tallied 125 career steals.
Among her signature seasons at Clarion included a freshman campaign in which she averaged 3.4 three-pointers per game, the top mark by a freshman in the country regardless of NCAA division. That rate led the PSAC and ranked fifth overall in Division II.
The Cumberland Valley High School alumna was the top-scoring freshman in the PSAC in the 2010-11 season, averaging 13.3 points per game, and then made 65 three-pointers as a sophomore in 2011-12 – ranking third in the conference.
Fickel graduated from Clarion in 2014 with a degree in rehabilitative sciences, concentrating in developmental disabilities, and a minor in psychology. At Shippensburg, Fickel is studying toward a master’s degree in counseling for grades K-12.
