Paul O'Brien is in his third season as an assistant coach with Shippensburg. O'Brien boasts 18 years of coaching experience, including a nine-year stretch as a high school head coach during which he compiled a .651 winning percentage through 272 games.
O'Brien is a well-respected ASA/ASE certified coach in the Maryland region. He served as the head softball coach at St. Vincent Pallotti High School in Maryland for six years, compiling a career record of 145-89 while 14 of his graduates advanced to play collegiately.
In 2008, O'Brien completed his second year at the helm of the program at Archbishop Spalding High School and guided the team to the IAAM A Conference Championship. For his efforts, he was named the 2008 Coach of the Year by the Baltimore Sun and by Digital Sports. He finished his two-year stint at Spalding with a 32-6 record.
O'Brien has also been an integral instructor with numerous softball camps for the last 15 years. In addition to creating and organizing Pallotti's Winter Clinic in 2000, O'Brien has also lent his hands to the Shippensburg University camps since 2006. Among the travel teams he has coached include the Maryland Chill and the Free State Fury.
O'Brien has been a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) since 1999. He graduated from Borromeo College (Ohio) in 1987 and currently lives in Silver Spring, Md.
