Ben DeShong is in his 14th season as an assistant coach at Shippensburg University in 2015. He will once again assist in all aspects of instruction and game preparation with the Raiders, including assistance at all practices along with other skill-based counsel.

In nine years as SU’s primary assistant from 2001-09, Deshong helped oversee Raider teams that compiled a 304-160 record (a .655 winning percentage) along with three PSAC Championships, two NCAA regional championships and eight consecutive NCAA tournament appearances.

In 2003 and 2004, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) named Shippensburg as the Coaching Staff of the Year in the region, following consecutive NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championships and Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships.

DeShong is a consummate professional and an invaluable member of the staff, volunteering much time and hard work to the Raider program. His vast knowledge of the game has contributed greatly to make Shippensburg softball the best it can be.

Ben is married and lives with his wife, Jenny, in the Newburg area. They have two grown children, Heath and Jamie.
