Benji Kanour enters his sixth academic year as the head equipment manager at Shippensburg University in 2022-23, having joined the Raider staff in January 2017.
Kanour's role as the head manager involves the oversight of all of Shippensburg University’s equipment operations. He establishes, maintains, and reconciles uniform and equipment inventories for multiple Raider teams, with his primary responsibility being the SU Football team.
His leadership and direction of Shippensburg’s equipment needs has helped establish a consistent, professional standard for all of SU’s athletic teams. Kanour and his fellow equipment managers are the primary liaisons with BSN Sports, the official partner of SU Athletics.
Additional oversight includes the maintenance of inventory records., uniform and equipment distribution at practices and gamedays, and necessary purchase orders of equipment vital to the daily function of the athletic teams.
Other duties include ensuring that all uniforms and related apparel and equipment are maintained in a clean and serviceable condition, including daily laundry, and valuable gameday assistance to other areas of campus such as sports information, facilities and campus safety. He has also functioned as a gameday event manager at numerous athletic contests.
Kanour arrived at Shippensburg after working for eight years at Penn State University as an equipment manager with its Olympic sports (men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, wrestling and gymnastics). During his time with the Nittany Lions, Kanour worked with teams that won numerous Big 10 Conference Championships, including multiple titles for wrestling and women’s volleyball.
A native of Centre County, Kanour is married to his wife Alyssa. The couple are the proud parents of daughter Elliot.
