2013 (R-Sophomore): Spangler competed in four races for the Raiders in his second full season as a cross country performer. His most notable performance came at Lock Haven, where he established a new 8K PR with a 10th-place overall finish. He also competed at Gettysburg, Kutztown and in the season opener at home. On the track, Spangler placed fifth in the 1,500 meters at the PSAC Outdoor Championships and posted a season PR of 3:53 at Bucknell. He was also a PSAC indoor place-winner with the distance medley relay, achieving an All-PSAC third-place finish, and an indoor conference qualifier in the mile. His academic pursuits resulted in his second consecutive CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District citation for excellence in the classroom.
 
2012 (R-Freshman): In his first cross country season, Spangler was a consistent scorer for the Raiders – culminating the year as SU’s No. 2 runner at the NCAA Regional Championships with a 10K PR. Spangler completed six races, including the PSAC Championships. He established a 20-second 8K PR at Gettysburg, running 26:32 as SU’s No. 2 runner. Another Top-20 finish was achieved at the Monmouth Invitational. During the track season, Spangler was a NCAA outdoor qualifier in the 1,500 meters and placed three times at the PSAC Indoor Championships, including second in the mile, seventh in the 3K and a relay title on the DMR. For his work in the classroom, Spangler was one of three Raiders recognized with a selection to the 2012 USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team. He was also a CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District performer.
 
2011 (Freshman): Spangler completed a redshirt season in cross country. He was a regular contributor in track – placing fourth in the mile at the PSAC indoor championships and fifth in the 1,500 meters at the PSAC outdoor championships.
 
Winters Mill High School: Spangler earned 11 varsity letters between cross country and track for the Falcons under head coach Daniel Replogle. He was a Maryland state champion in the 1,600 meters as a senior and won two AA state titles in the 3,200-meter relay. His PRs were 1:55 in the 800 meters, 4:16 in the 1,600 meters and 9:47 in the 3,200 meters. Spangler also received a Scholar-Athlete award.
 
Personal: Ryan Donald Spangler is the son of Don Spangler and Laura Ruby. He is majoring in biology with a concentration in biotechnology and pursuing a minor in biochemistry.
