2013 (R-Junior): Gibson completed a redshirt season in cross country at Shippensburg. On the track, Gibson anchored both of SU’s PSAC Championship 4x800-meter relay squads and capped off a banner year with three more PSAC individual place-winning performances, including two All-PSAC honors. Indoors, Gibson placed third in the mile and fourth in the 800 meters while outdoors, he placed third in the 800 meters.
2012-13 (R-Sophomore): Gibson began the year at California (Pa.), running cross country, before transferring to Shippensburg in the winter. With the Vulcans, Gibson ran in all six of his team’s races. He was the No. 3 runner at the PSAC Championships and the No. 5 runner at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships. Gibson also posted a sub-27 minute 8K time at the Waynesburg Invitational and was a member of the AD Honor Roll. He red-shirted in track & field at Shippensburg.
2011-12 (R-Freshman): At California (Pa.), Gibson participated in cross country and track for the Vulcans. He competed in three races during the fall, including a turn as his team’s No. 6 runner at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships. On the track he produced three PSAC place-winning performances on the track, including an indoor school record with the distance medley relay (NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 10:05.98) that placed fourth at the PSAC Indoor Championships. At 800 meters, Gibson finished eighth at the PSAC Indoor Championships and PSAC Outdoor Championships. He was also a PSAC indoor qualifier in the mile and established his outdoor personal best in the 800 meters in the preliminaries at the PSAC Championships.
2010-11 (Freshman): At Saint Francis, Nick did not compete in cross country but took to the track. He helped the Red Flash win an indoor conference championship in the distance medley relay, running on a quartet with his brother, at the Northeast Conference Championships. Gibson later ran on the DMR at the IC4A Indoor Championships. Individually, Gibson was a NEC indoor conference qualifier in the mile and an outdoor conference qualifier in the 800 and 1,500 meters. Outdoors, Gibson ran on the outdoor 4x800-meter relay for the Red Flash at the NEC Championships.
Canon-McMillan High School: Nick earned 12 varsity letters for the Big Macs under his father, coach Jeff Gibson. He was a PIAA state qualifier in both cross country and track & field who contributed to a pair of WPIAL team championships. He won a WPIAL individual title at 1,600 meters and established multiple school records: indoors at 1,600 meters, the mile and with the 4x800-meter relay and outdoors at 800 and 1,600 meters as well as with the 4x800-meter relay. Nick was honored as a Pittsburgh Tribune-Review and Washington Observer-Reporter Athlete of the Week and also named the Almanac Track Athlete of the Year. His efforts were recognized with a Boys’ MVP at the Washington County Track & Field Championships. He graduated on the high honor roll and as a member of the German Honor Society. In addition to cross country, Gibson played basketball.
Personal: Nicholas David Gibson is the son of Jeff and Diane Gibson. He is majoring in management. Nick has four siblings, Taryn, Jonathan, Kyle and Justin, all whom competed at one point for Saint Francis (Pa.). Taryn (sister) is an assistant coach at Louisville who was a national qualifier with the Cardinals. Kyle (brother) is an assistant coach at Saint Francis (Pa.). Jeff (father) is an assistant coach at Robert Morris.
