2009 (Junior): The Virginia native maintained his status as one of SU’s most successful distance runners with outstanding showings in seven meets. Rissell’s top performance of the season resulted in All-Atlantic Region honors, as he finished sixth at the regional championships as SU’s No. 2 runner with a collegiate 10K cross country PR of 31:53. At the PSAC and NCAA championships, Rissell was the No. 5 runner for the Raiders. He had a strong start to the season, finishing fourth in the Alumni 6K meet and sixth in the 10K at the Mountaineer Flatland Invitational. At the Paul Short Invitational, Rissell set a new 8K PR as SU’s No. 3 runner with a time of 25:05. During the track season, Rissell was a PSAC placewinner in the indoor 5K and the outdoor 10K.
2008 (Sophomore): Rissell had an outstanding year throughout all seasons for the Red Raiders. During cross country, Rissell had a breakthrough performance at the 10K Atlantic Regionals by finishing as the team’s second-fastest runner with a time of 33:04 that earned him 16th place. His 8K race at the Paul Short Invitational netted a personal-best time of 25:58 that slotted him as the team’s third-fastest runner. He was the team’s fastest 4K competitor at the Dickinson Invitational and finished seventh overall at the Lock Haven Invitational. During the indoor track season, Rissell finished second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:27.52. During the outdoor season, Rissell finished fourth in the 10K at the PSAC meet with a time of 31:44.95 and third place in the 5,000-meters with a time of 15:20 in which he made up three places over the final 600 meters.
2007 (Freshman): Rissell completed a solid debut season for Shippensburg in which he competed in four meets while gain¬ing valuable experience as a Red Raider. He made his debut in the five-mile NYU Invitational with a time of 28:26 and posted an 8K time of 29:27 at the PSAC Championships. His top time on an 8K course came at Gettysburg, where Rissell finished in 28:38.
J.E.B. Stuart High School: Rissell posted strong times in the three-mile and 5,000-meter runs as a senior. His best effort in the three-mile was a time of 15:47 while his top mark in the 5,000 was 16:33. He also posted strong efforts in the 2,000-meter steeplechase (6:48) and the 3,200-meter run (9:58).
Personal: Ethan Taylor Rissell was born on Sept. 23, 1989. He is the son of Harold and Elizabeth Rissell and is majoring in management information systems.
