Matt Gillette, an All-American and four-time All-PSAC and All-Region cross country runner, is back at his alma mater and will serve as a student assistant coach with both SU teams in 2015.

Gillette ran cross country for Shippensburg from 2009-12, playing a major role in the team’s 2010 PSAC Championship season. As a senior, Gillette earned All-America honors by placing 17th at the 2012 NCAA Division II Championships. He became the 10th All-American in school history and posted the best finish by an SU runner in 21 years.

His career finishes at the PSAC Championships are ninth, fourth, fourth and third, while his career finishes at the NCAA Atlantic Region Championships are ninth, 10th, sixth and fourth.

In track & field, Gillette was a two-time NCAA indoor champion and three-time All-American in the distance medley relay (DMR), running the opening 1,200-meter leg on SU’s 2011 championship team and 2012 third-place squad before anchoring SU’s second national title in 2013.

Gillette was named the 2013 PSAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Year as a senior. In addition to his NCAA-champion anchor leg, he earned individual All-America honors with a third-place finish in the 3K. During the regular season, Gillette broke Steve Spence’s long-standing PSAC record in the 3K by running 8:09.33 at The Armory. At the 2013 PSAC Indoor Championships, Gillette was named the Track MVP and Overall MVP after winning conference titles in the mile, 3K and with the DMR. Â

Outdoors, Gillette was a four-time NCAA qualifier – three times in the 1,500 meters and once in the 5K. He earned All-America honors in the 1,500 meters, placing seventh as a sophomore in 2011 – a year in which he also won the PSAC Championship in his signature event.

Gillette has maintained optimal physical fitness following his graduation. He has won numerous races throughout Pennsylvania as a post-collegian, including the 2014 Harrisburg Mile, the 2015 Emmaus Dash and Splash 5K and the 2015 Firecracker 4-Mile.

A native of Orefield, Gillette earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing from Shippensburg in May 2013. He is currently seeking his MBA at Shippensburg.Â
