Casey Norton is in her second season as a volunteer assistant coach to the cross country teams in 2019 while studying toward a master’s degree at her alma mater.

Norton is one of seven SU women’s track & field/cross country athletes in history to earn Academic All-America ™ honors. Her exemplary Raider career includes U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region cross country finishes in all four seasons and an impressive total of 12 USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region classifications on the track: seven times outdoors (3x in 1,500, 3x in 5K, 1x in 10K) and five times indoors (2x in mile, 3x in 5K).

In 2016-17, Norton’s senior season, Shippensburg achieved the fourth Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Triple Crown (titles in XC, I-T&F, O-T&F) in school and league history. Throughout her four years, Norton was the heart and soul of Shippensburg women's teams that achieved significant success, winning seven PSAC Championships in 12 seasons (4x Outdoors, 2x Indoors, 1x Cross Country).

Norton's greatest success as a senior came in cross country. The 2017 PSAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year and the 2017 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Atlantic Region Cross Country Athlete of the Year, Norton won the 2017 PSAC Championship in a photo finish (22:17) before winning the NCAA Atlantic Region Championship by 22 seconds (22:21).

Her crowning achievement was an All-America finish at the NCAA Division II National Championships, placing 28th overall as the only PSAC cross country runner to earn All-America honors. The performance at nationals was the capstone of an incredible season and career for Norton, who served as SU's No. 1 runner in her final 14 collegiate races.

Norton was a USTFCCCA All-Region performer in all three sports in which she competed in 2016-17: cross country, twice in indoor track & field (mile, 5K) and three times in outdoor track & field (1,500, 5K, 10K). Indoors, Norton won her first conference championship on the track, claiming gold in the 5,000 meters with a victorious time of 17:10. She also earned All-PSAC honors in the mile, placing third. Outdoors, Norton was a NCAA national qualifier in the 10K, placing 17th overall.

Overall in cross country, Norton was a three-time All-PSAC finisher and a four-time USTFCCCA All-Region runner. She finished as a seven-time PSAC outdoor track & field place winner (six-time All-PSAC) and an eight-time PSAC indoor track & field place winner indoors (five-time All-PSAC).

Norton, a native of Granville Summit, graduated summa cum laude from Shippensburg in 2017 with a bachelor of arts in human communication studies and a minor in business. She is currently studying for her master of science in counseling, focusing on college student personnel, while working as a graduate assistant in the admissions office.
