2013 (Junior): In his debut season donning a Raider singlet, Burleigh served as Shippensburg’s No. 1 runner in all six of the races he finished. Burleigh earned All-PSAC and All-Atlantic Region honors after third-place finishes in both races, establishing a new 10K PR of 30:23 at the regional championships, before placing 47th overall at the NCAA Division II National Championships. He also ran 4K at Dickinson, winning the Short Invitational in 12:04, in addition to placing second at the Piper Invitational and third in Kutztown’s Division II Challenge. After transitioning to track, Burleigh won the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship in the mile, running 4:10.40, and was an NCAA outdoor qualifier in the 1,500 meters. At the PSAC track championships, Burleigh finished second indoors in the mile and 3K and third outdoors in the 1,500 meters. He also anchored SU’s top time in the indoor distance medley relay.
 
2012 (Sophomore): Burleigh impressed as a sophomore at Virginia Tech, placing sixth at the ACC Championships to help the Hokies achieve their first conference championship in school history. His time of 23:54 marked the first sub-24 minute effort of his career in cross country over 8,000 meters. Of his five races during the season, Burleigh also posted Top-20 finishes in the VT Invitational and the Charlotte Invitational. For his academic success, Burleigh was recognized with a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team.
 
2011 (Freshman): As a rookie at Virginia Tech, Burleigh competed in five cross country races (one unattached). He established an 8K collegiate best at the ACC Championships, where he placed 52nd. Burleigh won the 6K Hokie Open and was his team’s No. 3 runner at the Indiana State Pre-National Invitational. During the track season, he was an ACC indoor qualifier in the 3K after serving as his team’s pacesetter in the event with a time of 8:08.9 at the SPIRE Division I Invitational. In outdoor track, Burleigh was the runner-up in the 3K at the Colonial Relays and was an ACC qualifier in the 10K.
 
Midlothian High School: Burleigh was an exceptional runner with the Trojans under the direction of coach Stan Morgan. He was a 10-time AAA state medalist in Virginia, including three times in cross country and three times for the indoor mile. Other state medals including two in the outdoor mile and two with his school’s 4x800-meter relay team. As a junior, Burleigh was an individual qualifier for Nike Nationals. He competed at Nike Nationals again as a senior alongside his team. In 2009, he finished fourth at the Nike Cross Country Southeast Regional Championship. Among his splits include a 15:20 personal best in 5K cross country competition and an outdoor mile in 4:15. Academically, Burleigh achieved National Spanish exam honors as a sophomore and junior and earned two places in a county-wide Write Now contest, winning the fiction category.

Personal: Brayden James Burleigh is the son of Bryan and Pamela Malvin Burleigh. He is majoring in English while seeking his secondary teaching certification. He has two brothers, Jonathan and Nicky. His father, Bryan, was a three-year starter in football at Virginia Tech who played for the Hokies from 1982-85.
