Jaren Gembe ’11 is in 12th season on the Shippensburg University men’s basketball coaching staff. The 2025-26 season marks his fifth as the associate head coach and his 11th as a full-time assistant coach.

Among Gembe’s primary responsibilities include work with the team’s guards. Gembe is integral to the recruiting process and has responsibilities in all aspects of the team, including skill instruction, scouting and video preparation.

As the primary assistant to Chris Fite, Gembe has helped coach the Raiders to six consecutive 20-win seasons and a 140-44 record from 2015-2022.

In his time as a Raider assistant, Gembe has worked with numerous guards that have helped redefine the Raider record books. Jake Biss ’21 finished his career ranked third in school history in career three-pointers (212), sixth in career assists (391) and eighth in career free-throw percentage (.802). Justin McCarthur ’18 concluded his career as Shippensburg's career leader in three-pointers (291 – ninth in PSAC history) and single-season leader in three-pointers (101 in 2016-17). His 1,650 career points rank fourth all-time at Shippensburg. Abe Massaley ’17 was a two-time All-PSAC selection who ranks second all-time at SU in career assists (496) and 11th all-time in points (1,417).

In 2024-25, Markus Frank joined the 1,000-point club as a redshirt sophomore season in a record 53 career games. The All-PSAC East First Team player led the PSAC in regular season scoring and finished fourth in the conference at 19.6 points per game while helping the Raiders qualify for the PSAC Tournament.

Gembe has worked side-by-side with Fite to instruct Raider basketball teams that have won a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship and qualified for three NCAA Tournaments – including the deepest postseason run in school history with an Atlantic Region Championship Game appearance in 2018.

Gembe was named the primary assistant men’s basketball coach at Shippensburg University on Nov. 3, 2014, replacing Eric Rahauser. He worked as a part-time assistant coach for the 2013-14 season.

As a collegiate player, Gembe played in 104 career games for the Raiders from 2007-11. He scored 463 points and dished out 240 assists. He made a school-record 37 consecutive free throws during a senior season in which he ranked fourth in the PSAC in three-point shooting.

A native of Greencastle, Gembe earned his bachelor’s degree from Shippensburg in 2011 and earned his master’s degree from East Carolina in 2013.
