Ryan also helped guide the Red Devils to two Centennial Conference Championships and one berth in the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs. During the 2006 season, Ryan was an integral instructor to a Red Devil defense that ranked prominently in the national rankings in run defense, total sacks and third-down efficiency.

As a collegian, Ryan played at Pitt from 1989-93.
