Josh Borreli is in his fourth season as an assistant football coach at Shippensburg University in 2019. Borreli coaches the defensive line. His recruiting territory is northern New Jersey.

In his first two seasons with the team (2017-18), Borreli served as the graduate assistant coach. He coached the defensive backs alongside head coach Mark ‘Mac’ Maciejewski and also filled valuable roles in recruiting, video coordination, breakdown, practice preparation and scouting.

As a defensive line coach in 2019, Borreli instructed a unit that included All-PSAC Second Team lineman Tim Bradley, who led the team with 8.0 sacks and 10.5 tackles-for-loss (TFLs).

From 2015-16, Borreli was the defensive backs coach and special teams coordinator at Western New England University in Massachusetts. Additional duties included film breakdown and analysis of opposing defenses, recruiting efforts in multiple states, and special teams personnel groupings and substitutions.

With Western New England, Borreli also served as the football team’s academic coordinator. He was responsible for monitoring the academic standing of players, organizing weekly study halls, and communicating with peer mentors, tutors, and professors.

As an assistant with the Golden Bears, Borreli was an integral defensive instructor to a unit that ranked among the Top 10 teams in NCAA Division III in defensive passing efficiency, forced turnovers and interceptions. Western New England posted a 20-0 regular-season record in his two seasons on staff, reaching the NCAA Division III playoffs twice and winning its first NCAA postseason game in school history.

As an instructor of defensive backs, Borreli coached 2016 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-American Obi Etuka and three all-conference performers during his two seasons with the Golden Bears. Etuka is the first AFCA All-American in Western New England history; he graduated with a school-record 21 career interceptions.

Prior to Western New England, Borreli was an assistant linebackers coach at his alma mater, Lebanon Valley, in the spring of 2015. He also served as a defensive quality control specialist and provided assistance with recruiting efforts.

Borreli played two seasons collegiately at Lebanon Valley. With the Dutchmen, Borreli earned 2013 All-Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Second Team honors as a senior strong safety. In his junior season, Borreli intercepted three passes and returned them all for touchdowns, including a record-setting 103-yard touchdown return against Albright.

A native of Hummelstown, Borreli is a graduate of Lower Dauphin High School. Borreli earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lebanon Valley in 2013. Borreli earned his master’s degree in Organizational Development & Leadership with a concentration in higher education structure & policy from Shippensburg in January 2019.
