Christopher Rivers is in his first season as a graduate assistant for Shippensburg University Football in 2024. Rivers will oversee the Raider defensive backs under the tutelage of head coach Mark Maciejewski.

Rivers arrives at Shippensburg after serving as a defensive back coach at Carroll College in Montana this past spring. At Carroll College, Rivers ran the defensive back room and assisted in overseeing the special teams unit.

Rivers is coming off a wildly successful rookie season as a coach in 2023, serving in numerous roles at University of Minnesota Morris.

At Minnesota Morris, he served as the defensive backs coach, assistant special teams coach and assistant strength and conditioning coordinator. He oversaw the progress of two First Team All-Conference defensive backs and a First Team All-Conference return specialist and helped guide the football program to the Upper Midwest Conference Championship.

A former defensive back, Rivers was a First Team Junior College All-American at Minnesota’s Ridgewater College before transferring to Division II Minot State in North Dakota. At Minot State, Rivers finished second on the team in tackles and recorded a pair of interceptions during the 2018 season.

He earned a professional tryout with the Atlanta Falcons and played indoor football for the Billings Outlaws and the Sioux City Bandits following his collegiate career. He has also worked as a sports performance specialist with Showtime Performance Training in Minnesota.

Rivers received an associate’s degree from Ridgewater College in 2018 and a bachelor’s degree from Minot State University in North Dakota in 2023.

He will seek a master’s degree in organizational development and leadership with a business concentration at Shippensburg.
