As a prep athlete, Pennington played for Easton Area High School and earned 2014 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference All-Area First Team honors. The Red Rovers won the 2014 EPC Steel Division Championship.

A native of Easton, Pennington earned her bachelor of science in athletic training and a minor in applied nutrition from Ohio in May 2019. She received her master’s degree in college athletic administration from Coker in December 2020.
