Sean Williamson is in his 12th season as an assistant baseball coach for the Raiders in 2027. This year’s campaign marks the ninth season in which Williamson has held the role of the team’s primary assistant to head coach Matt Jones.

Shippensburg has qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament in each of the last five seasons, winning 26 or more games each year and posting an overall record of 137-111 in that span.  He has also contributed to two Raider teams (2023, 2017) that have qualified for the NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament.

For the last several seasons, Williamson has served as the hitting coach for the Raiders. In 2026, Shippensburg led the PSAC in batting average (.335) and slugging percentage (.541), totals that ranked 16th in the nation for each category, while also totaling the second-fewest strikeouts in the league (262; 5.3 per game).

The 2026 Raiders also produced 167 extra-base hits (3.4 per game), including 57 home runs (third in the PSAC) and 18 triples (tied for second in the PSAC). SU’s 785 total bases ranked third in the conference.

Williamson works with the entire squad but provides specific instruction to the outfielders and first basemen. Only seven qualified hitters in the PSAC had a batting average of .400 or better in 2026, and two of them were Raiders who ranked among the league’s Top 4: first baseman Thomas Cano-Piszel (third, .415) and outfielder Ty Sherman (fourth, .405).

Cano-Piszel ranked second in the PSAC in on-base plus slugging percentage (OPS) (1.196) and in slugging percentage (.714) while tying for fifth in the league in home runs (11) with his teammate, outfielder AJ Wenrich. Following a season, in which he ranked third in the PSAC in slugging percentage (.680) and seventh in OPS (1.115), Wenrich competed for the State College Spikes of the MLB Draft League.

Defensively, Cano-Piszel and first baseman/outfielder Caden Lloyd, committed just one error each for the season over 381 combined defensive chances and contributed to 28 double plays.

In 2025, the Raiders ranked second in the PSAC in batting average (.319), fourth in slugging percentage (.458) while grounding into the fewest double plays (18) in the league. SU tied for third in the PSAC in fielding percentage (.971) and ranked fifth in both total bases (701) and stolen bases (88).

Williamson has been an invaluable recruiter for the Raiders during his tenure with the team. He officially serves as the team’s recruiting coordinator.

Among Williamson’s numerous in-game responsibilities include serving as the team’s bench coach – coordinating the operations in the dugout while strategizing with Jones to help put in motion the activation of pinch hitters, pinch runners and defensive replacements.

Williamson began his coaching tenure at Shippensburg in 2016; he served as a volunteer assistant in his first three seasons before being elevated to the assistant position.

He arrived with the Raiders after playing and coaching at Salem International University, taking the field with the Tigers from 2010-12 and compiling a .320 career batting average. Williamson was a team captain and an All-WVIAC honorable mention selection.

During his final year at Salem International, Williamson was a volunteer assistant for the Tigers – working as an infield and hitting coach. Williamson was also in charge of strength and conditioning for the team.

An alumnus of Carlisle Area High School, Williamson graduated from Salem International in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He is married to his wife Alyssa, a 2007 SU graduate, and the couple are the proud parents of their daughters Grace and Amelia.
