Ryan Bown returns for his third season as an assistant coach for the Raider baseball program in 2010. He oversees the team’s strength and conditioning program while assisting with recruiting and several on-field duties.

Bown is an integral instructor to the Red Raider pitchers and also focuses on team defense. The Red Raiders have ranked third and seventh in the PSAC for team earned-run average while yielding a batting average against under .300 in both seasons. Additionally, Shippensburg had the best defense in the conference during the 2008 campaign.

He brings solid coaching and playing experience to Shippensburg. A 2004 graduate of Ursinus College, Bown appeared in 30 games with 21 starts while posting a 14-4 record and a 3.22 ERA in three seasons with the Bears from 2002-04. He also totaled 145 strikeouts, five complete games, three shutouts and three saves in 148.1 innings pitched.

During Bown’s career, the Bears advanced to the conference championship semifinals twice in 2003 and 2004. During those two seasons, he owned an 11-2 record in 20 appearances with 103 strikeouts and a 2.91 ERA in 105.2 innings.

Bown earned his bachelor of science degree in exercise and sports science from Ursinus in May 2004 before going on to earn his master’s degree in the art of teaching from Marygrove College in Detroit, Michigan in August 2007.

Bown currently teaches physical education in the Waynesboro School District at Mowrey Elementary School. He lives in Chambersburg with his wife Rachel and their son Braydon. Rachel is a 2004 Shippensburg graduate and former member of the Lady Raider softball team.
